Maud Lillian Amer was born on 14th November 1880 in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. In 1901, she was living with her parents in Station Road, Lutterworth, from where she worked as an assistant school mistress.
In 1906, Maud married Francis William Amer, a solicitor’s clerk, and by 1908 they were living at 1 Eden Villas on Melton Road. In 1908, Peter, the first of their two sons was born, followed by Donald in 1910. Francis died in 1915, leaving Maud to bring up her two children.
It is likely that with a young family to provide for, Maud returned to teaching with a position at Melton School where both her sons would later attend. In 1939, Maud was living at 4 Doric Place, Woodbridge. She died on 18th November 1949 at a nursing home in Bromley, Kent.
