William Riches and Annie Parry were married in 1873 in the Woodbridge area. William was a local man born in Melton and Annie was from Cardigan in Wales. The couple moved to 2 Tollgate Cottages on Yarmouth Road shortly after their wedding. Their seven children - David, Elizabeth, Ernest, George, Oscar, Annie and Arthur - were born there. David died when he was eleven years old and Ernest also died, but shortly after his birth in 1879.
George, Oscar and Arthur all served in the First World War, as did Elizabeth’s husband, Peter Ungerer.
