Richard William Flick and Charlotte Gray were married in Sussex on 3rd December 1867. Richard was born in Suffolk into a brewing family who owned properties in London, Oxfordshire, Essex and Suffolk. Richard and Charlotte had nine children, but by 1911, only their daughter Isabelle and her three brothers, Charles, Percy and Hubert were still alive. The family property in Melton was The Holt, on Melton Road, close to the boundary with Woodbridge. Two of their sons, Charles and Hubert, served in the First World War.
