George Frederick (known as Frederick) was born on 5th May 1883, but was not baptised (at St Andrew’s Church, Melton) until 1886, after his sister was born. Fred was still living with his family in 1911, working as a labourer on a farm. He is named in the Booth’s Almanack for 1915 and 1916 as serving in the Army Service Corps, but there are currently no other records identified to confirm this.
In 1921, he married Rachel Ransby and they had three children: Stanley, Donald and Joyce. In 1939, Fred and Rachel were living in Valley Farm Cottages and he was working as a horse-slaughterer and carter.
