William Dowsing and his wife Charlotte (née Frindle) moved to Melton around 1887 with their family of three daughters, Marion, Elsie and Daisy. They lived at 7 Hackney Terrace and William worked as an insurance agent. Not long after arriving in Melton, a fourth daughter, Gladys, was born.
In 1889, their son William Charles Walter was born. He was followed three years later by their fifth daughter, Grace, and in 1896, their last child and second son, Edgar, was born. Both William and Edgar served during the war.
William and Charlotte remained in Melton until their deaths in 1930 and 1942 respectively. They are buried in Melton Old Church Cemetery.
