Percy George Pace was born on 12th May 1895 in Chelsea, London and, in 1901, he was living with his mother and father in Enfield. After the death of his grandfather, the family moved to Melton and, in 1911, Percy was employed as a railway gate boy, operating the crossing gates at Melton Station.

Percy was conscripted into the services, joining the Army Service Corps (ASC) as a Mechanical Transport Learner – he went on to be trained as a car or lorry driver. Percy remained in the ASC until the end of the war in 1918.

In 1939, Percy was living with his widowed mother at 12 St John’s Hill, Woodbridge, and working as a taxi driver. Percy died in 1951 having never married.

For his war service, Percy received the British War and Victory Medals.
