George Smith and Elizabeth Chilcott were married in 1875. By 1881 George was working as an attendant at St Audry’s Hospital. Elizabeth and their son, Arthur, were living with her parents in Parham, Suffolk. The family moved to Foundry Row on The Street where their four other sons were born; George in 1881, Frank in 1884, Charles in 1886 who died in 1890, and Albert in 1892. Upon George’s retirement from St Audry’s, the family moved to 12 Prospect Place, Melton.
All of their four surviving sons are recorded in “Booth’s Almanack” as having served during the First World War.
