Thomas Cranmer was born in Woodbridge on 4th June 1885. He was the youngest son of Samuel and Emily. In 1911, he was employed as a gardener and living in the family home in Prospect Place, Melton.
As a member of the Woodbridge Territorials, Thomas was part of the 4th Suffolk Regiment. He did not agree to serve overseas and was placed on home defence duties. This meant Thomas was not eligible to receive any medals for his war service.
In 1917, Thomas married Emma Coe and by 1939 he was living in the Lodge, Park Road, Ipswich, still working as a gardener. Bertram, his brother, lived nearby in Bolton Lane and worked as a park attendant – it is likely they worked together. Thomas died in 1945 in Ipswich.
